Rovers Announce Elite Football Academy

Blues head coach Bill Robertson to lead football academy

Young, aspiring footballers will be given an opportunity to become part of an elite football academy right here in the Bay when Napier City Rovers kick-off a new initiative in March.
 
​Although a Rovers venture, the academy is open to budding footballers from all clubs in the area aged between 9 and 15.
 
Bill Robertson, Napier City Rovers Central League coach and Team Wellington captain, will be spearheading the academy as head coach.

With a vast experience playing at top level in New Zealand, and youth development in USA, UK and Australia, the services of the UEFA B licensed coach will ensure top quality training for young participants.
 
The set-up at Napier City Rovers and Bluewater Stadium is enviably one of the top playing grounds and footballing facilities in New Zealand, which Robertson says will provide the optimum training setting for kids to learn the game.
 
“The Napier City Rovers Academy will offer a year round coaching programme, providing players with an opportunity to consistently train and develop in a professional and challenging environment, with highly qualified and experienced coaches,” says Robertson.
 
Academy manager Phil Doran says the aim is to ensure emerging players secure the opportunities they need to reach their capabilities.
 
“Through a player-centred focus and a commitment to excellence, this academy is dedicated to providing a first-class footballing experience to developing players, and give them the best possible chance to progress and reach their full potential,” says Doran.
 
“We want to provide quality coaching, combined with a relevant education package, that can produce players with the ability to play Central League football, or perhaps even go on to bigger and better things further down the line.”
 
An information session is scheduled to be held at Napier City Rovers club rooms on Tuesday, February 21, between 6.30pm and 7.00pm, with the academy set to kick-off in March.
