Junior Blues Coach: Phil Doran, Rovers chairman, to lead Open Grade team
Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers is delighted to announce Phil Doran as Open Grade coach for the upcoming season.
The Rovers chairman is well-known in the region and has a great rapport with many local junior and youth players. As a Central Football Federation Talent Centre coach, Doran has been involved with junior and youth development in the region for the last three years, having previously coached in Auckland as well as his native Scotland.
An experienced coach, with advanced New Zealand Football junior coaching credentials, Doran is looking forward to working with the Rovers Open Grade team in 2019 as he strives to develop them as players, as well as fortifying their love of football.
“My objective this season is the same as last season - to provide the best opportunity and environment I possibly can to enhance individual players’ growth and development, and I aim to have a lot of fun doing it. I also want to reinforce their passion for the game,” says Doran.
“In line with New Zealand Football’s Youth Framework, I will be employing the four corners approach; this places the player at the centre of the development process and recognises that the technical, tactical, mental and physical components of the game are distinguishable, but not separable. I will also be working on increasing these younger players’ game knowledge and developing their understanding of their roles and responsibilities within the team.
“I am really looking forward to the season and the challenges and rewards that come with coaching youth level football.”
