Napier City Rovers wants to celebrate National Volunteers Week by hailing our own unsung Blues.
There are a lot hidden treasures at NCR in the form of a fabulous team of happy helpers who keep the ball rolling week-by-week.
At the start of National Volunteers Week, Malcolm Wilson was presented with the Sports Hawke's Bay Volunteer of the Month Award for his awesome behind the scenes work at the club.
To end the week, Napier City Rovers wants to recognise and say a huge thank you to all the amazing people working hard behind the scenes.
But, also give player's, fans, and members the chance to vote for the person they think deserves some special recognition.
Young Rovers player Christopher Whyte was over the moon when his hero Fergus Neil popped in to visit.
Young Napier City Rovers player Christopher Whyte had something to smile about today when his hero Fergus Neil paid him a visit in hospital.
The Rovers captain was just the tonic to help the young Rovers player beat the blues after he recently underwent surgery for a broken femur.
Christopher, who plays in the NCR 10th Grade Giants, coached by his mum, and NCR Ladies player, Katie, has a long rehabilitation process ahead of him after sustaining the injury during a school football game.
Mum Katie says the visit from the Blues captain was just what the doctor ordered.
"He knew Fergus was coming, and he'd had a really rough day with pain and leg spasms, so it really lifted his spirits, a lot. He was really talkative, telling Fergus all about what had happened.
"Fergus came with his NCR beanie that he wears to training. Chris thought it was so cool when he gave him it to keep."
Christopher, who is also part of Rovers keeper Ruben Parker's Top Flight Goalkeeping Academy, was also left speechless when Parker dropped in to pay him a visit last week.
"When Ruben came Christopher had no idea. It was a huge surprise. His face lit up," says Katie.
"The love and support Chris has been getting from the men's team, and the awesome messages has helped a lot."
Please, leave him a message of support and help cheer him up.
Get well soon Christopher, from everyone at Napier City Rovers.
Napier City Rovers would be unable to grow our Junior Blues without the hard work and dedication of the coaches who volunteer their time and energy to help our young players develop and follow their football dreams.
They spend their weekends coaching NCR junior teams, making sure children get active, develop their football skills and, most importantly, have fun.
Now is the chance to nominate your favourite NCR junior coach for the 2017 McDonald’s Junior Football Coach of the Year award.
