Napier City Rovers have unveiled Stu Wilson and Chris McIvor as the coaching team to lead Napier City Rovers Prems this upcoming season.

Wilson and Maca have a wealth of playing and coaching experience between them and have already achieved great success with youth players, including leading the NCR U19 team to the Satellite Final of the Lotto National Under 19 Tournament last year.
nder Wilson, along with Terry O’Neill, also led the Duke of Gloucester Napier City Rovers team to the Computer Care Pacific Premiership title in 2018 with a predominantly young squad.
“Last year we won the league, and seven from our starting eleven were under 19,” said Wilson.
“This year we will continue to be a development team, consisting of mainly youth players with a spattering of experience to lead the group.
“Our focus is the development of young players from age 15 upwards, to help them gain experience in senior football and also prepare for the 2019 Under 19 tournament."
This year Rovers have introduced a ‘Youth Player Apprenticeship Scheme’ which will see some youngsters entering a training programme with the opportunity to train with the Central League squad. Wilson says the coaching team will be working closely with head coach Bill Robertson to get young players onto the scheme, with the aim of them going on to play at a higher level.
"We also want to develop young players to feed into the Central League team, giving players the opportunity to train and play Central League football.”
The senior players mentoring the young footballers will be Chris McIvor, Stu Wilson, Danny Wilson, Dean Johnston and Wayne Atkins. The group, all with an impressive record of Central and National League football, will add a depth of experience that the young players will benefit from. .
Chris McIvor has played 87 Games for Hawke’s Bay United and was also previously assistant coach for the National League side.
McIvor has made the National League All Star selection squad three times, and represented Napier City Rovers in more than 250 games.
He is currently director of Maca Sport Leadership where he is focused on developing young leaders in sport.
