Some of New Zealand’s top young football stars will be descending on Napier this weekend as the annual U19 Youth Tournament gets underway.
Kicking-off on Saturday morning will be the first of more than 120 games of exciting football being played at Park Island over the labour weekend. Some of the biggest clubs from all over Aotearoa will be competing for the top youth trophy, currently held by Western Springs after they beat previous winners Birkenhead in an action-packed final last year. Over the years many young players have played in the tournament and went on to gain international status, including Chris Wood, Mark Paston and Ben Sigmund. Come along, enjoy the carnival atmosphere, and witness some of New Zealand football’s future stars in action. The group stages kick-off at Park Island, Saturday 9am, with games continuing all weekend, culminating in the top two faccing-off in the big final at Bluewater Stadium, 12:30pm, Monday.
