The Napier City Rovers Football Academy continues its quest to develop the next generation of bay players as it is launches into its third year, with the first session of 2019 kicking-off next week.
The popular academy, led by Bill Robertson, winning Central League coach and National League player, is growing in numbers, attracting players from all around Hawke's Bay.
Open to any player aged 6-15 years, not just Rovers members, the academy is designed to develop young footballers to their fullest potential through engaging, fun sessions, and high-quality coaching.
Players are grouped depending on their stage of development and ability, with pathways for both developing and elite players.
“We have seen a steady increase in numbers since launching the academy in 2017. We also have a core group of players who have been with us from the start, all from various clubs around the region, and it is pleasing to see their progress over the last two years," says Robertson.
The set-up at Napier City Rovers and Bluewater Stadium is enviably one of the top footballing facilities in New Zealand, which Robertson says will provide the optimum training setting for young players to learn the game.
“The academy offers a year-long football development programme led by highly qualified and experienced coaches and elite Central and National League players, in a safe, enjoyable and challenging football environment, all located at one of the country's top footballing venues.”
With a vast experience playing at top level in New Zealand, and youth development in USA, UK and Australia, the services of the UEFA B licensed coach ensures top quality training for participants says Rovers Chairman, Phil Doran.
“We want to provide quality coaching, combined with a relevant education package that can produce players with the ability to play football at the highest level possible, and Bill Robertson is one of the top coaches in the country,” says Doran.
Doran adds the aim of the academy is to ensure emerging players secure the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
“Through a player-centred focus this academy is dedicated to providing a first-class footballing experience to developing players, and give them the best possible chance to progress and be the best that they can be.”
